The seat is made of luxuriously soft leather, with ample storage compartments, including one especially for storage of the pillows, blanket, and seat cover for sleeping. Noise-cancelling headphones are provided, as is an Emirates-branded writing kit in one of the storage drawers. The first-class seats, or "suites," as they are labeled on the aircraft, are large and equipped with all sorts of electronics, a mini-bar, extra snacks, multiple lighting sources, privacy doors, and plenty of leg room. She then inquired what time I would like to reserve the on-board shower. One of the attendants took my pre-flight drink order, and the other brought over the amenity kit, pajamas, and slippers. Within a couple of minutes, the flight purser came by to introduce herself and ensure that I had met all the flight attendants who would be serving the first-class cabin that day. I was shown to my chosen window seat 2K, and the flight attendant explained how to use all the controls for lighting, door opening/closing, entertainment system, seat adjustment, etc. There is an e-tablet for controlling the entertainment system, in addition to a wired controller in the armrest and the touch-screen monitor itself. The seat is fully adjustable, including a setting to move closer to the tray table when it is open. The service and professionalism of the Emirates flight attendants, which is always top-notch, was exemplary and especially attentive on my flight. There are 16 first-class seats on the A380 that Emirates operates on its DXB-SFO flights, but there were only five passengers on my Tuesday-morning departure. ![]() Security personnel were thorough and professional as they went through all carry-on bags for every passenger. Emirates crew check boarding passes and identification at in-lounge departure desks for each gate, and there is an additional security check by Dubai airport personnel as passengers go through the corridor to the elevator to the jet-bridge for the upper-deck passengers. There are separate Emirates business-class and first-class lounges that span the entire length of Terminal 3 in Dubai, with direct access to boarding the aircraft. The staff came to my table to top off my champagne and to inform me that they would be changing over the menu to breakfast, in case I wanted anything else from the midnight menu – a nice attention to detail and service. Since I arrived in restaurant before 6:00am, the food selections were a mixture of "midnight snacks" and high-quality hors d'oeuvres, which was perfect since I wanted just a light bite before the 16-hour flight ahead of me. (Flip thru the slideshow at the top of this post or to see R.W.'s excellent photos) I awoke early enough before my 8:45am departure time to have a light meal and do some reading before boarding. I quickly went to the darkened quiet-zone for some sleep on one of the chaise lounges, complete with blankets, pillows, and slippers. ![]() ![]() I was most happy to take advantage of the Emirates first-class lounge in Dubai, which is open 24/7. Here are our guidelines.Īfter some rest in a day room at the Kathmandu Hyatt Regency, I took flydubai's late-night, all economy-seating flight (not a pleasant experience, with every seat filled for the 5.5-hour flight) from Nepal, Kathmandu, to Dubai, UAE, and arriving at 2:25am local time on December 12, 2017. This review is written by TravelSkills reader R.W. The key was to book both outgoing legs on Singapore and both return legs on Emirates, rather than booking the legs separately. Overall, I'd say that price was a good deal for a "front of the plane" experience. I paid $7,793.72 for my around-the-world trip (in business class on Singapore and SilkAir, in economy on flyDubai, and in first class on Emirates). ![]()
